Thomas Dobrovich

Thomas began his musical studies at Keynotes School of Music at the age of 6, and has been teaching at the studio since 2010. He has accrued significant performance and competition experience, having taken part in various competitions from the municipal to the international level. He has won many individual, special recognition and festival prizes from competitions spanning Peel, Halton, Scarborough, Markham, North York, Peterborough, Richmon Hill, and beyond. He achieved first and second place in consecutive years at the Canadian Music Competition National Finals in Quebec, represented Ontario at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals’ National Finals in Kelowna, BC, and performed at Carnegie Hall as a first prize winner of the International Protege Competition for Piano and Strings. He holds an ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance, with the standing of First Class Honours with Distinction. He has had the privilege of studying with Dr. Yaroslav Pugach, Ron Greidanus, Boris Lysenko, and Professor Mia Bach. Thomas completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Toronto with Honors in June, 2019.

Thomas has had many successes as an educator, having helped the vast majority of his students achieve First Class Honours or higher on their RCM examinations, as well as earn top standings in piano competitions around Peel and the GTA. He draws from personal, practical performance experience in his teaching, and balances this with the development of musicality, technical proficiency and awareness with his students.

We have been with Keynotes School of Music for the last 6 years. We are very fortunate to have Thomas Dobrovich as our son’s piano teacher. He is very knowledgeable, talented, and a dedicated teacher who is passionate about music. We highly recommend Keynotes to any parent who want to introduce their child to the world of music.

My daughter has been attending Keynotes School of Music for approximately 8 years now.  The owner Kathy and her talented teachers run a very warm, inviting school which has made my daughter always feel very comfortable at the school and happy to attend her classes. The dedication of the teachers and their enthusiasm for my daughter's development has definitely contributed to her love for music and enthusiasm to continue to have music and the piano as part of her life.  I would highly recommend Keynotes to anyone wishing to bring music into their lives!

At Keynotes, students learn to appreciate and enjoy the music with a focus on good technique as opposed to just rushing through completing RCM exams. Added to that, we have always appreciated Kathy’s efforts to accommodate scheduling needs and teaching preferences for both our boys. Our older son began learning piano at Keynotes when he was 7. Still at Keynotes at 18, he is working towards his Grade 9 RCM while at the same time preparing to teach piano. His younger brother is following along the same path. Kathy placed each of our sons with a teacher who suited his personality, and making the learning experience more enjoyable.

We recommend Keynotes to anyone who would like to learn and enjoy playing music.
