Thomas began his musical studies at Keynotes School of Music at the age of 6, and has been teaching at the studio since 2010. He has accrued significant performance and competition experience, having taken part in various competitions from the municipal to the international level. He has won many individual, special recognition and festival prizes from competitions spanning Peel, Halton, Scarborough, Markham, North York, Peterborough, Richmon Hill, and beyond. He achieved first and second place in consecutive years at the Canadian Music Competition National Finals in Quebec, represented Ontario at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals’ National Finals in Kelowna, BC, and performed at Carnegie Hall as a first prize winner of the International Protege Competition for Piano and Strings. He holds an ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance, with the standing of First Class Honours with Distinction. He has had the privilege of studying with Dr. Yaroslav Pugach, Ron Greidanus, Boris Lysenko, and Professor Mia Bach. Thomas completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Toronto with Honors in June, 2019.
Thomas has had many successes as an educator, having helped the vast majority of his students achieve First Class Honours or higher on their RCM examinations, as well as earn top standings in piano competitions around Peel and the GTA. He draws from personal, practical performance experience in his teaching, and balances this with the development of musicality, technical proficiency and awareness with his students.
